Josie Gibson ('There's Something About Josie') - interview

After winning Big Brother last year (and walking out of Ultimate Big Brother), it seems Josie couldn't get enough of the cameras! After she left the house, Channel 5 started following her around and the result is a brand new reality show - There's Something About Josie. The series follows Josie as she deals with her new fame and her up-and-down romance with her fellow BB housemate John James! We went to meet the reality star to discuss the programme, her split from John James, why she doesn't care about fame and whether she'll be hosting the rebooted Big Brother...

Why did you want to do There's Something About Josie?
"We got asked to do it, and I just thought... Because I'd come out of Big Brother, I just thought, 'I want to throw myself into everything'. I'm all about experiences. I just want to do everything, me!"

But coming out of Big Brother, did you not think, 'I want to get away from the cameras now'?
"To be honest, I did think like that. But we had quite a long break and because you make friends with the camera crew, it's just like having a mate that don't talk following you about all the time. It's not really that bad. You honestly forget that they're there. It's just like the Big Brother house - seriously, you forget that they're there."

I would have thought these cameras were a lot more obvious.
"It is a lot more obvious. First of all it was like, 'Oh, this is a bit weird' and you don't really know what to say and you're a bit shy. But you totally forget that they're there. It's just like having a mate in the corner that doesn't speak."

Were there ever any things you didn't want to be filmed?
"Oh God, all the time! But I've got no control over what gets shown and what doesn't... I haven't told them to turn the cameras off, because half the time you don't know when they're filming because they sneak up on you from around a corner or something like that! You're like, 'Oh God, they're filming that'. It's really, really weird. The hardest thing about it is you're like, 'Oh, do you want to go out?' to your friends and they're like, 'Alright then'. But then you're like, 'We've got the camera crew with us' and they're like, 'Oh no!' So I found myself a bit unpopular for a little bit. But only because some of my friends are a bit shy in front of the cameras. I used to be really camera shy but now obviously I'm so used to it it doesn't bother me at all."

What sort of things can we expect to see in There's Something About Josie?
"I think it's going to be really glossy and I think you'll see a bit of everything. You'll see me making a right clums out of myself in the first episode - oh God! Bit embarrassing. You'll see a bit of drama, a few rows, I suppose. I hope that they've got a few nice times in there. My birthday party. We've been really, really busy. I hope it's alright!"

You mentioned rows - is it right that you and John James have split up now?
"Yeah, he's gone back to Australia."

He's obviously going to be in the show a lot - will that make it hard for you to watch it?
"Yeah. Yeah, really hard. But I'll have to watch it with all my girls [and cry]! With a glass of wine. Yeah, I think it's going to be quite hard to watch. Personally, I don't watch myself back on TV anyway. I haven't even watched any of Big Brother back. I'm just like, 'Ah!' I watched my interview and that was it. If I'm on any shows or anything I don't watch it."

Do you think the cameras put more pressure on your relationship with John James?
"Having cameras around can add pressure because sometimes you forget they're there. So when you've got someone like me, who's got verbal diarrhoea and doesn't really know what they're saying half the time, then you're like, 'Oh, what did you say that for? What did you say that for? What did you say that for?' So it can add added pressure, yeah."

When you went into Big Brother, did you expect the fame and your own TV show?
"No, I thought I'd have to be down the Job Centre! In fact, when I was in Big Brother at the end of the show I started panicking. I'm one of these people who've always got to go to work, so honestly I started panicking, going, 'Oh my God, when I get out of here I've got no job, I've got no money coming in, what am I going to do?' I kept going in the Diary Room going, 'If anyone wants to employ me, I'm really good! Whatever you want me to do!' I seriously thought I'd be down the Job Centre and back to square one again. But I got on really well with my old boss so I was hoping, like fingers crossed, that he'd give me my job back. But I've been too busy!"

Are you enjoying the fame?
"I do like it when you speak to people in the streets and it's like they're your mates because they feel like they know you. I like that side of it. But the fame side of it as in seeing yourself in magazines, I couldn't care less! Is that bad? I like talking to people because I'm a people person, but it wouldn't bother me if in two days time no-one knew who I was."

What's the strangest thing that's happened to you in the last few months?
"I think it's all been a bit strange. If I actually sat down and thought about it, I'd be like, 'Ooh'. Because I've been so busy, I haven't had time to register it. But in a minute it'll all slow down because everybody knows how this game works. You get your five minutes and then it's done. So in a minute it'll slow down and I'll be able to register what's happened and I'll think, 'Wow'. I suppose I've got some amazing stories to tell the grandkids now."

Have you got any projects coming up?
"I'm one of these people who get bored really easily. I've got to have loads of different projects going on. I like throwing myself at everything. One of my dreams is I want to go to Africa and work in the orphanages in Africa. I want to go on holiday with the girls to Ibiza. I want to throw myself into presenting, see if I can do that. I want to go on a hot air balloon ride. I want to go for a boat ride down the Thames! I want to buy a house. I've just signed a plus size modelling contract with Curvissa - that's out in May or June. So yeah, I've got a few things. I like to keep busy! Otherwise it's boring - you don't want to not keep busy. Oh, I'm getting a column. I've been offered a few so I'm going to get a column. That would be good, wouldn't it? All these stories, all I think in my head is, 'There's one to tell the grandkids'."

And obviously Big Brother's coming back - will we be seeing you hosting that?
"I wouldn't like to take over from Davina. I wouldn't get asked, anyway. I've been presenting and I've got a really good showreel now but I wouldn't get asked anyway because my experience is not there - not like someone like Emma Willis or Brian Dowling. But I would love to be involved in BBLB. I'd love to do that. Because I've been in it as well, it would be nice because I'd understand what they're going through. So I'd love to do that but I don't even know if they're bringing BBLB back. I don't know, but I hope they will. Even if I don't get picked, I won't feel like a loser because at least I've tried. You never feel like a failure if you've tried your best."

Are you excited that Big Brother's coming back?
"Oh God, yeah - especially the celeb one. Hopefully they have some really good ones - Charlie Sheen."

Who would you want to go on the show?
"Probably Charlie Sheen, The Rock, Davina, Dawn French, Katie Price..."

You've not thought about this at all!
"Yeah, I've had a little bit of a think about this one! Only because I've been asked. But Charlie Sheen, definitely. I think me and him could be good friends!"

Would you ever go back into the house?
"Do you know what, I absolutely loved every single minute in that house. No stresses, no worries - you haven't even got to pop to the shops. You've got a swimming pool in the back garden. It was like a massive, great, big holiday - I'd go back there in a jiffy. For free. For the rest of my life!"
